Pyrography became a popular decorative hobby during the period of 1870 to 1930, originally from Flanders, where it took on new life for the Victorians and Edwardians. A major center of production was the Flemish Art Company factory in Brooklyn, New York, where workers stamped pre-designed patterns onto wood blanks that hobbyists or factory artists would then burn by hand.
